To Blog or Not to Blog

So, as many of you have told me, I have not blogged in a while. I noticed too. I think blogging is one of those things like catching up with an old friend. You know that it would be nice but it is sometimes easier to just not. You make the first contact after a while and then there is pressure to decide if you are going to continue making contact or to go back into retreat and let it be another long while before you talk again. So, today I am blogging again. I want to make it clear though that I have not yet determined which way we are going to go with this. Am I going to try and keep in touch or just let myself go with out writing again for a while? Time will tell. I just want to create real expectations of what this contact means.

So yeah, a lot has changed since Oscar turned one. He is now two. Livy is one. The family is growing and becoming busier while at the same time settling down. I feel like my life has finally entered a stage of normalcy. That probably means there is something on the horizon but I feel like I have left a stage in life and have entered a new stage.

A lot of what caused this to occur was that I got a new job. A job I can see myself being at for the next 40 or so years. At the end of February this year, I left a job and friends I love at COMPASS to become the Transportation Funding Coordinator at the Ada County Highway District. It was a risk for me. I had grown to love my job at COMPASS over the 3 1/2 years I worked there. Let's be honest, I had been through some major life changes during that time and the people there were by my side supporting me through it all. I really loved what I did but I knew that at some point something would have to change.

Primarily I moved trying to get my family into a sustainable financial situation. With my families needs in mind a made a shift. My new job at ACHD is not that different that what I was doing before. I apply for and manage Federal transportation grants where before I was the one who was receiving the applications. I oversee a few committees now and will begin working more closely with some of the local cities soon as a liaison for the district. I was never nervous about the work change. I was more nervous about leaving the comfort of COMPASS.

After a little over a month at ACHD, I think I can say I am happier with the change than I ever expected. I absolutely love my job. I never thought I would say that. I love finding money to build roads and sidewalks and bike lanes. I love working in government. I love the people I work with. I have been back at COMPASS so many times in the last month that I am thinking about requesting a temporary desk there so I don't have to travel as much. I really enjoy my job and can actually see myself working out the rest of my career here.

Another big thing that seems to have moved me in to this new stage in life is that it appears for now that our family is complete. It seems strange to say at 27 my family is complete but as far as Tiff and I can see it now, we are. I like it though. I like knowing that my thoughts can be focused more on raising my children well over how to prepare for more. Accepting that fact really was a shift for me. I went through 2 years of nothing but new additions to our family but I am happy with the plan. I love each one of my children and their different personalities. I love getting to see them and watching them grow. I feel like more than ever I can focus on being a good Dad. I love that.

There are so many things that seem to have just worked out lately. I love the stage of life I am in. By the way, Tiff and I celebrated our third anniversary two days ago. I am the luckiest man alive to have such a wonderful wife. She is so supportive and loving. She is truly the best mother in the world. I could not ever ask for a better life.
